Keto Angels was founded in 2019 by Dr. Ouma Bongiorno, shortly after she was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Determined to regain her health through a low-carb, ketogenic lifestyle, she quickly realized there were almost no suitable food products available for diabetics in Mauritius, despite the country’s high prevalence of diabetes and obesity. Drawing on her scientific research background in medicinal chemistry and biopharmaceutical biotechnology, Dr. Bongiorno began developing and testing recipes in her home kitchen. These early experiments evolved into a full line of ketogenic and diabetes-friendly food products designed to make a low-carb lifestyle more accessible and enjoyable. Today, Keto Angels offers a diverse range of convenient, flavorful options that help individuals across Mauritius maintain better health with less hassle

THE FOUNDER

Ouma Bongiorno

Founder

Dr. Ouma Bongiorno is a seasoned scientist and entrepreneur, specializing in medicinal chemistry, pharmacognosy, and biopharmaceutical biotechnology. She earned her PhD in Pharmacognosy and Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Mauritius and completed postgraduate training in next-generation drug discovery at the University of Edinburgh. With a broad background encompassing complex research experiments, laboratory management, and strategic business development, she has been honored with multiple prestigious scholarships, including the Chevening Scholarship (UK), the Louvain Drug Research Institute Doctoral Scholarship (Belgium), and the TEC PhD Scholarship (Mauritius).

In 2019, Dr. Bongiorno founded Food for Health, an NGO dedicated to advancing public health through nutritious food. She also established Keto Angels Ltd, a pioneering Mauritian company that produces low-carb, diabetes-friendly food products for individuals with specific dietary needs. Renowned for her entrepreneurial acumen, she has co-founded ventures such as Regate Engineering Ltd. Dr. Bongiorno remains deeply committed to integrating rigorous scientific research with impactful, health-focused business solutions.
